Sergio Cruz-Duran (Mexican)
Encuentro VIII, 2011
A tapestry of pen and ink, Encuentro VIII takes its cues from Mexican mythology, a primary theme for artist Sergio Cruz-Duran. “Mythology,” he writes, “is the realm in which reality and imagination meet, where future and past make the present, where humankind and God make a person, where body and spirit make the heart beat.”
Cruz-Duran’s education in art, architecture, and urban design took him from Michoacán, Mexico, to California and then to Oxford, where he creates his mythological subjects, architectural drawings, and portraits. Each exhibits the expert use of light and fine line work seen here.
